Sathya Sai School in Pokhara, Nepal

Background
The Sathya Sai Vidyashrama, Nadipur, Pokhara, Nepal is a non-commercial, service oriented institution established in 2002. It is located on the north of beautiful Pokhara valley which is situated on the lap of the snow-capped mountains and is surrounded by the natural beauty. The unique character of this school is that it provides a conducive atmosphere for teaching high standards of modern education with Sathya Sai Educare and five human values Truth (Sathya), Right Conduct (Dharma), Peace (Shanti), Love (Prema), and Non-violence (Ahimsa) as propounded by Bhagwan Shri Satya Sai Baba along with the courses and the curriculums prescribed by the Government of Nepal. It has been established as an autonomous institution under the education act of the Government of Nepal. 

The Vidyashrama is an English medium co-educational school which accepts students irrespective of caste, creed, color, religion or sex. It runs classes from nursery to 10 with the plan to expand upto class 12. The first batch of School Leaving Certificate (SLC) the “iron gate” appeared in 2008 and scored excellent-marks where 45.45% of the students passed with distinction and 54.54% in 1st division. The result continues to be in the distinction and first division. 

At present the Vidyashrama enrolls 267 students (162 male, 102 female) of which 69 are on scholarships. There are 18 teachers (9 Male, 9 female) and all of them have received training in Sathya Sai Educare and five human value techniques. In addition, there are 10 other staff (4 Male, 6 female) to assist in the general running and maintenance of the school. 

It has facilities for hostel for the boys and girls. Currently there are 20 students (10 male, 10 female) at the hostel. It also has a private bus for pick and drop to the students, science and computer lab, library, basket ball court, football ground, dining hall and prayer hall and a beautiful lotus pond. 

Objectives and Goals
Following are the specific objectives and the Goals of the Vidyashrama:

  1. To provide curriculum that integrates the philosophy of Sathya Sai Educare and uses the theory of Integral Education;

  2. To create an environment, culture and ethos permeated by the active practice of the give inherent human values (Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love, Non-violence) in daily life;

  3. To be a model of academic excellence;

  4. To provide education which is experiential and transformational in character, rather than imparting knowledge and skills alone;

  5. To encourage the unity of thought, word and deed;

  6. Developing an active social conscience in students and an inclination to render selfless service to others;

  7. Selecting competent teachers with good character who strive to become exemplars of the human values;

  8. To strive to maintain a student population that reflects local and national culture and; where appropriate, include children who due to economic hardships would have been precluded from quality education.

  9. Provide support and assistance to the economically and socially disadvantaged students.

  10. To produce ideal citizen who loves, respect, promote and preserve its mother land.

  11. To work closely in coordination with all the Sai organizations and institutions in Nepal and throughout the world, all the board members, parents and guardians of students.

  12. To develop into “Sai Village” with all the facilities like temple of its own, hospital, home for old people (bridhashram), training hall, canteen, children’s park, accommodation for student, teachers and non-teaching staff and for volunteer workers.
